Will this be the Year of the Boxes?
What treasures will you find?
You know those boxes, lining the shelves of your closet, attic, basement, garage. So many of us have them; where are yours? Is this the year you’ll finally tackle them and make the decisions about what to do with all that stuff?
John and I have been working together for almost two years, systematically going through all the rooms (and ample storage spaces) in the home he inherited from his parents. When we started, the house was jam packed with stuff that belonged to his parents as well as two sets of grandparents and two great aunts. We’ve sorted, decluttered, sold, donated, and brought order to John’s home. We’ve found all kinds of treasures (my local vintage dealers are loving this project), and I swear we’ve found at least 75 pairs of scissors…so far!
Now we’re working in a basement storage room that has a wall of boxes. They are orderly and labeled, which is helpful, but clearly the contents were boxed in random order (as is evident by the label on the box pictured). As we started tackling these boxes, John said, “This is all stuff my parents refused to deal with…the stuff that made me promise my child that I would not leave everything for her to deal with at some future date.”
It's rewarding to work alongside John and help him make choices about what to do with all the stuff, and to facilitate sales of items that warrant selling. (You might be surprised at what we’ve been able to sell…clown statues anyone?)
