Who’s ready for organizing tips?

As noted in a recent blog, I was going to put together a list of How To’s for the linen closet…but really, the basics of organizing apply pretty much anywhere. This article from The Container Store (linked below) is a great place to start. For those who just want to scroll quickly, here are the basics from the article:

 1. Start in one place; whatever your priorities, select one area and stick to it.

2. Allow plenty of time; don't expect organization to happen overnight.

3. Clean out; go through everything and get rid of what you don’t need.

4. Take inventory; look at what remains and decide if it belongs in that space.

5. Look for wasted space; think creatively about additional areas that you can put to work.

6. Maximize vertical space; a surefire way to instantly create more space is to go "up."

7. Divide the space; utilize organizing items that make efficient use of the area.

8. Keep it moving; consider storage options on wheels.

9. Organize with color to enhance your efforts.

10. Visibility: Choose containers that are either transparent or that you can easily label.

11. Accessibility: Make sure that the items you need most often are the easiest to access.

12. Flexibility: Select a storage system that can adapt to your changing needs.

I’ve considered linking various resources on my website (www.spiritandspacellc.com) or sharing articles more freely in my posts.  Would that be helpful for you?

One of my favorite things about being a professional organizer is getting discounts at TCS and the Williams Sonoma brands as a trade partner…and passing those on to my clients!
