Spreading a Little Bit of Joy
Recently a professional colleague referred a friend to Spirit & Space. The friend had a small lot of newspapers and magazines from the 1960’s, mostly focusing on the Kennedy assassination and the moon landing. She didn’t care about making money but wanted them “to go somewhere that values them and can preserve them somehow.”
Within the week I’d identified a dealer who was interested in buying the lot (for a small amount), met the client to get the items, and delivered them to the dealer. Two days later he emailed me: “My friend came over and we had a great time looking through those papers. Only made it through about a quarter of them! Thanks to you and your client for the fun!”
When I shared that message with the client, she was thrilled. “That really brings a lot of joy to my heart, as goofy as that may sound. My grandparents and my mom carted those things around for so many years and a part of me felt horrible for getting rid of them, but knowing they are in the hands of someone who appreciates them makes me feel a lot better about the decision.”
What do you have tucked away that you no longer want, use or need, which might bring joy to others?
