Joyful Treasures

Recently a friend asked me what kinds of projects I enjoy most in the work of Spirit & Space. While we engage all kinds of different projects, two came to mind quickly.

First, it’s very rewarding to do a whole-home organizing project, helping a client declutter, reorganize, and reclaim their space. In these crazy times, it’s an honor to help someone find more calm and joy at home. Oftentimes our work involves creating space for the treasures clients love, giving new life to items that are meaningful to them.

The second kind of project involves helping people understand the value of their belongings, and connecting them with buyers for the valuables they don’t want to keep. So often people have items that they think might have value, but they don’t know how to determine that or how to sell the items that are worth something. It’s so fun to hear a client say, “No one is going to want that anymore” and reply, “Actually, I know just the dealer for that!” Working with over 30 local dealers, I’m constantly learning who wants to buy what to satisfy the interests of today’s buyers.

Not everything we unearth in our decluttering has worth in the current market; with so many people downsizing these days, the market is flooded with inventory, which impacts prices. But to help a client find out about treasures they no longer enjoy, and get them into the hands of people who will find new joy in them…well that spreads joy all around. Who couldn’t use a little more joy these days?

EBTH or Bust!

At least once a month I take deliveries to Everything But The House (EBTH), a global auction house headquartered in Cincinnati. Last week my car was packed with designer shoes, crystal, china, jewelry (fine, vintage and costume), sports memorabilia, art, candelabras, and figurines.

Curious to see what’s selling these days? Check out these winners and bombs in recent auction lots!
