Sky’s Unlimited

Steve and I met serendipitously when he was picking up an item I had posted on Marketplace for a client. He met me at the client’s home, where the Spirit & Space team was in the midst of a big clean out. When we got to talking, Steve said he was impressed with the work we do to support nonprofits when we are cleaning out unwanted items for clients.

Steve told me about his work with Dads Appreciating Down Syndrome (D.A.D.S.), which he started with six of his friends 20 years ago. Inspired by his son Sky, Steve wanted to do something to support other fathers of children with Down Syndrome, and to bring awareness to the abilities people with Down Syndrome have.

Now 23, Sky will travel to Iceland in November to compete in an international weightlifting competition. He can lift 293 pounds! Steve said he could never have imagined the life his son would live when he was that three-year-old little boy in the days when D.A.D.S. was started.

It was our pleasure to give Steve some office supplies from the client’s unwanted items to support Down Syndrome Indiana, the parent organization for D.A.D.S. It’s such an honor to make these connections through the work of Spirit & Space, and to support good people doing good work in the world.
