From Bridal to Burial

Can you imagine a better use for a wedding gown? Earlier this month I packed gowns for two clients to donate to The Emma and Evan Foundation.

It’s hard to donate or sell outdated wedding gowns and other formal dresses. For those that aren’t too old, there are some great places to donate. Recently in Indianapolis, Indiana Youth Group (IYG) put a call out for formal wear for the prom they’re planning for LGBTQ youth. I’m going to drop off a fancy dress I used to wear for ballroom dancing. There’s also The Gifted Gown in Indy, and no doubt lots of other organizations nationally.

But what to do with those wedding gowns, especially the ones that have been stored for years?

Consider the sacred work of The Emma and Evan Foundation. Founded by Sheri Howe, The EVE Foundation supports families who have lost the littlest of souls far too soon.

They transform donated wedding dresses into beautiful infant burial gowns, also called Angel Gowns.  These gowns are offered to hospitals, birthing centers, funeral homes, and directly to grieving families completely free of charge. They also accept prom, bridesmaid, and flower girl dresses of any size, color, and age, as well as christening gowns, tuxedos, and men’s wedding suits. This is just one of many “angel gown” organizations across the country.

The dress that you so lovingly wore on that special day can be reworked to cradle a sweet baby leaving this world far too soon. Please consider this or similar organizations if you are ready to let go of a wedding gown or other formal attire.
