An Inspiring Closet Refresh
This week Spirit & Space is on the ground in Estes Park, CO for a whole-home organizing job. The client recently moved back into her house after a major renovation. We’ve organized almost every space except for the kitchen because, as so often happens, the contractor wasn’t done when we anticipated. (Even so, we’ve sorted and purged kitchen items and started to plan the space.)
Let this client’s primary closet refresh inspire you! First, the client pulled out all her clothes and sorted them by type. She tried on items as needed and set aside bags for Goodwill and consignment. Next, we talked through how she and her spouse could best utilize this shared closet, which they designed last year. It’s a great use of the space and goes even higher than this picture shows (thus the stepstool on the bottom left). We planned our errands, selecting organizational products at The Container Store (using my 20% trade discount) and other stores. Then we set to work to put everything back in an aesthetically pleasing way, based on how the client uses the space and the clothes.
Wouldn’t it be nice to start your day in an organized closet? It makes getting dressed so much easier. When you’re sorting through clothes, consider how often and when you wear each item and whether it feels good on you. This client found it helpful to sort with me; we talked about each item she tried on and I helped her make decisions. She let go of some items that still fit fine because she recognized that she had more clothes than she needed. And some items…well, some items have a special story; next week I’ll tell you what’s in that colorful bin at the top of this picture. Sometimes you need to create a special place for items that have deep personal meaning.
