A Study in Transformation

Frank reached out to Spirit & Space because he wanted to “reclaim” his study. Built above the garage, the study was designed to be a place where he could work, study, pray, and even have small meetings. As a pastor, he very much desired a space that nurtured a peaceful, calm vibe…and the study was not cutting it!

In recent years the study had become the place where Frank and his wife put things that otherwise didn’t have a place in the house. This was exacerbated by COVID, when it became his primary work space, as well as the process of cleaning out his in-law's home, when they brought a lot of “stuff” into the house. The space was so cluttered that Frank was hardly using it at all.

Frank and I worked together to transform his space. He diligently sorted through stuff in drawers, boxes, shelves, and closets. He clarified how he was using the two desks in the space, and was intentional about displaying meaningful decor. When the room started feeling better, with a cleaner flow and simpler lines, we moved furniture around and highlighted an antique writing desk from India that had been tucked away in a corner.

Frank raved about the difference our work made. Others noticed a difference too; during a recent video call, his colleague commented on the beauty of the space.

“My study had become a dumping ground for things; it almost repelled me. Now I want to be here; it feels really good to reclaim the space. The other day I came up to write thank you cards and took it all in; there’s a sense of joy here that contributes to my nourishment and growth. I look forward to spending time here.”

As I was driving away from the house after our last session, Frank called to say, “I feel like I’m in my spiritual cocoon.” Mission accomplished.
